Stopped Flooding on B1049 near Holiday Inn

Flooding on the B1049, Bridge Road near the Holiday Inn had become a permanent feature of wet winters. Flooding of both the footpath and the road forces cyclists out into the middle of the road, putting many off cycling and making it far more dangerous for drivers.

‘It was not acceptable to have such an important arterial road into the city flooding each year’ Ros says.   Ros worked with council officers initially to clear the gulleys but when it became apparent that that wasn’t solving the problem more investigative work took place.   A new drainage channel was created connecting into the A14’s drainage system.

Now even during the heaviest rainfall water quickly flows away from the road.  Ros’s work has stopped this historic flooding.
