Working with Cllr Firouz Thompson of Northstowe and Ian Sollom, MP Ros successfully campaigned for the number of buses on the busway to meet demand at peak times. A crisis was reached in September 2024 when the level of demand far outweighed the number of buses. This was particularly problematic for Histon and Impington where buses were arriving full and not stopping with passengers waiting disappointed at the bus stop unable to get to work or school. The Orchard Park situation is slightly different as some passengers alight there for CRC.
It took the Combined Authority and Stagecoach months to catch up with demand and issues continue.
Fundamentally this is a Cambridgeshire public transport success story. People from St Ives and Huntingdon are pouring into the city by bus taking hundreds of cars off the road every day but the Combined Authority must commit to meet demand from all passengers or risk undermining their commitment to improved public transport.
